Math-Fractions
We are beginning Unit #7 in math which will focus on fractions. To help us understand the concept, we are working on doubling numbers and breaking numbers in half.
Tell us…
What is the double of 1, 3, 5, 7, 9?
What is half of 2, 4, 6, 8?
Have Fun!
Poetry in Motion…
We have begun our poetry unit. We have learned the poets look at ordinary things in a new way.
Tell us a poem that you like.
Solid Shapes
We are beginning our study on solid shapes. We will be exploring spheres, rectangular prisms, cubes, cylinders and cones.
Today we noted that cones look (well of course like cones) but also like birthday hats.
Think about the rest of our solid shapes. What do they remind you of?
Spring!
Ahh…finally it is spring! What crazy weather we are having. Yesterday it was snowy. Today it is sunny. I wonder what tomorrow will bring.
What are some of your favorite things to do in the springtime?
Fact Families
In math we are working on fact families-numbers that stay together to make addition and subtraction equations.
Example:
3, 4, 7
3+4=7
4+3=7
7-4=3
7-3=4
Make up your own fact family and tell us how you solved it!
Valentine’s Day is coming!
In celebration of Valentine’s Day we will be passing out cards to our classmates. Please be sure to have one card for each student. Avoid “special” presents for only a few. We want everyone to feel included!
Here are our class names:
Boys:
Murtatha, Matthew, Milan, Tyler, Liam James, Long, Jack, Liam, Samuel, Jhaimey
Girls:
Halle, Jazmin, Kiana, Manuela, Runa, Abbie, Lexi, Dannae, Riko, Emily, Eily, Samantha, Madison, Alex, Isabella
Have Fun!
Winter Adventures!
In class today, we talked about our winter adventures. We learned that when we tell a story we can use telling sentences. Telling sentences have a noun (naming word) and they tell us what the noun did or does.
Please write 1, 2 or 3 sentences about your winter adventures.
Remember that a sentence starts with a capital and ends with an ending mark (period, exclamation, question mark).
Note: Telling sentences would not have a question mark.
Make a ten math strategy
Our math learning target for this week is “I can make a ten.” Why is learning this strategy so important? How does it help us be a better student?
Welcome Back!
It sounds like everyone had a great break. I have enjoyed hearing about all your adventures (and presents).
We have started working on Read to Someone during Daily 5. Tell us why Read to Somone is important.
Winter Break
I hope that everyone has a wonderful winter break. Please share with us what you will be doing.
